Fine quality blue wool with black polished cotton lining quilted on the upper body, with draped skirt. Nice period sleeve cut, 8 1/2" elbows tapering to a 5" cuff, raw cut skirt edge. White cotton sleeve lining, brown polished cotton tail lining. 1.1/2" black velvet standup collar. Double breasted nine button front with mixed backmarked staff buttons, thirteen of which are marked Extra Quality. Four rear pleat buttons backmarked Waterbury Button Co. Original staff colonel's shoulder straps, 2" wide with matching opposite facing silver bullion eagles. One with wear to the brass wire edge.
Officer’s sword belt. Both sword drops are present with all hardware, spring for one of the clips broken. Plate is regulation officer’s sword belt plate with eagle and wreath. leather show wears but the belt is in overall very good condition. Wine coloured officers sash in good condition. The body of the sash has one or two small moth nips, with some fading to the tassels on the end, which is common on these items.
The coat displays fine condition overall, just some moderate wear on the velvet collar, a few small holes on the right sleeve and minor armpit wear. Lining shows wear at the shoulders and neck with some discoloration at the hem but as can be seen it displays handsomely with the belt and sash.
