US OHIO VETERANS MEDAL (J.NO. COSAD CO. H 44TH REGT. OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY) BY TIFFANY & CO. US GAR MEDAL

John Cosad. H Company 44th Regt. Ohio Volunteer Infantry & 8th Regiment, Ohio Cavalry. Age 21 joined Sept. 18, 1861 for 3 yrs. into Company H, 44th Regt. Ohio Volunteer Infantry. On Jan. 4, 1864; Regiment was renamed 8th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry – company designations being retained. Mustered out with company July 30, 1865 as paroled POW. Veteran.

Regiment lost during its service (both as 44th Ohio Infantry and 8th Ohio Cavalry) 3 Officers and 53 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 1 Officer and 113 Enlisted men by disease. Total 210. Total wounded unknown.

Condition VF, NVF, ribbon on GAR split in two.
