WATERLOO MEDAL

WATERLOO 1815 MEDAL TO A PRIVATE IN THE 71ST FOOT

WATERLOO 1815 ‘THOMAS HARRICE, 1ST BATT. 71ST REGT. FOOT.’

Thomas harvie, aged 19 from Kelso, Roxburgh, enlisted into the 71st Regiment at Dumfries on 20 October 1813 and was discharged on 10 January 1835 after just under 25 years service. Papers note 3 years, 7 months service in France, 7 years, 5 months in North America and 5 years, 3 months in Bermuda.’ He served in Captain Henderson’s no. 4 Company at Waterloo.

Harvie on Waterloo Roll, Musters Harvey, with correction to Harvie, service papers Harvie. All tie up as Waterloo man and no other similar names. Surname indistinct on medal roll so this is probably why error in naming the medal occurred.

Condition NVF, ‘I’ of surname weakly impressed, fitted with contemporary replacement suspension and steel clip. Sold with a quantity of research including copy medal roll, service papers and discharge.
