Obverse engraved; ‘ROYAL AMERICAN REGIMENT. 60 FIFTH BATTN 1815’
REVERSE ENGRAVED ‘PRESENTED TO A. HENNERHOFER QUARTERMASTER A TOKEN OF REGARD FROM HIS COMRADES WHO SERVED WITH HIM IN THE PENINSULA.’ Note ‘O’ in surname has cross engraved in it. May have a meaning as other ‘o’s in text don’t.
Quartermaster Sergeant Augustus Hennerhofer was promoted Quartermaster of the 5th Battalion 60th Rifles on 25th Nov 1807. The London Gazette shows his position being taken as Quartermaster on Hennerfofer’s death (reason unknown) in early 1815. This just prior to the battalion being disbanded. Presumably Hennerhofer had a good deal more service prior to being commissioned in 1807 given his rank.
