CRIMEA 1854-56, 1 CLASP, SEBASTOPOL ‘CORPL. J. STANTON. 20TH REGT.’
John Stanton Enlisted into the 20th Foot on 9th Sept 1854, proceeding to the Crimea in December that year and too part in the Siege of Sebastapol, the regiment taking part in the attack on the Redan on 17thJune 1855.
In October 1855, Stanton embarked on HMS Algiers at Kazatch to take part in the expedition to Kinburn and reconnaissance to Patrausky. Returning to the Crimea on November 3rd, He finally left forthe UK on 20th June 1856, having been promoted Corporal the previous December – quite a fast promotion.
As a Sergeant Stanton served in the Indian Mutiny at the capture of Lucknow. He was killed by the accidental falling of a barrack at Gorruckpore on 21 May 1862.
