A SUPERB OFFICERS ARMY OF INDIA FOR LASWAREE AND CAPTURE OF DEIG. BRIGADE MAJOR OF THE 2ND BRIGADE IN LORD LAKE’S ARMY 1803-4, HE WAS ONE OF THE STORMING PARTY AT DEIG HE WAS SEVERLEY WOUNDED BY A MARATHA SABRE AT THE BREACH

ARMY OF INDIA 1799-1826, CLASPS LASWAREE, ‘LIEUT W P ANDERDON, 8TH N.I.’

Capt. William Proctor Anderdon, born Bath in 1781, he entered the East India Company (Bengal) Army in as a Cadet 1796, arriving in India 9th Oct 1797. Promoted Lieutenant 10th Sept 1798 he was selected in 1801 the raise and train one of the new Light Infantry Companies. Took part in the operations in Jumma Doab and Sasni. Lieutenant 8th NI, Brigade Major of the 2nd Brigade in Lord Lake’s Army in 1803, serving as such in the second Mahratta War and being present at the battle of Laswarre and capture of Deig on 24th Dec 1804 (severely wounded at storming) while performing duties of adjutant of the 8th NI. In charge of Cadets 1805 and promoted Captain 8th NI 23rd Feb 1807. He went on furlough 22nd Jan 1810 and retired from the Army in 1812.

Mentioned extensively in ‘War and Sport in India 1802-1806, an Officers Diary’.

Condition NEF, ‘D’ of surname stamped over ‘S’ at time of naming. One of just two officers medals to the 8th NI for the capture of Deig.
