Peter John Gliddon, aged 18, from St Andrews, Plymouth, joined the Royal Artillery on 12 October 1897. He served in South Africa with 19 battery, Royal Field Artillery during the Boer War; 5 December 1899 until 7 August 1900 when he was invalided. He was finally discharged from the Army in October 1909.
