A VERY SCARCE EGYPT AND SUDAN 1882 TO A BOATMAN, OTTAWA CONTINGENT OF CANADIAN VOYAGEURS

H Grand served on the Nile Expedition with the Ottawa Contingent of Canadian Voyageurs. This contingent received 169 medals for the Nile.

Approximately 376 Canadian Voyageurs served during the Nile expedition; 169 from Ottawa, 88 from Winnipeg/Manitoba, 56 from Caughnawaga , 41 from Three Rivers and 22 from Peterborough, Sherbrooke and Sydney. The majority were loggers and “shantymen" who herded logs down the turbulent rivers of Canada’s timberlands, though excluding the Mohawks from Caughnawaga, there were a small number of other Indians in the other detachments.

Condition VF, some wear and minor edge bruising. A very scarce medal to this Canadian Voyageurs Contingent.
