Served in 2 New Zealand Expeditionary Force during WW2. Served in the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF) of Japan (New Zealand Forces). He further served during the Korea War, embarking on SS Ormonde at Wellington, Main Body for Korea. Entered Korea 31 December 1950. Returned to New Zealand 22 June 1951. Re-embarked with Expansion Force for return to Korea on 2 August 1951. Returned to New Zealand 6 June1952. Re-embarked for Korea 22 July 1952. Attained rank of WO.1. by 20 April 1953 when discharged from Britcom General Hospital. Returned to New Zealand 28 October 1953. Re-embarked for Korea 23 March 1954 and remained there until returned to New Zealand for the final time on 22 April 1955 and discharged 5 March 1956.

Condition naming engraved on both Korea Medals . Only 300 Coronation Medal 1953 medals to New Zealanders.
