A VIETNAM WAR CASUALTY PAIR TO PRIVATE IN THE ROYAL NEW ZEALAND INFANTRY REGIMENT, WHO WAS WOUNDED IN ACTION IN MAY 1969

VIETNAM MEDAL ‘380426 PTE. G. R RIMINGTON RNZIR’, SOUTH VIETNAM CAMPAIGN STAR ‘380426 G R RIMMINGTON’.

Private Gary Rimington, served in Whiskey 2 and 3 Companies, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment during the Vietnam War. He is noted as wounded in Action on the 9 of May 1969; shrapnel wounds to the face.

Rimington's service file has not been obtained, so few details are known about his details at this stage. What is known is Gary Rimington was born in Auckland on 15 August 1946, son of Philip James Rimington and Lorna Margaret McCavery. According to the Flinkenberg List, Rimington served with both Whiskey 2 and Whiskey 3 Companies, 1969-1970. The 6 RAR history notes that he was posted to Support Company and wounded in action, 9th May 1969 with shrapnel wounds to face. The circumstances surrounding this wounding require further investigation. Gary Rimington died at Auckland on 22nd September 2002.
