A SECOND WAR GROUP AND SINGLE 1939/45 STAR TO BROTHERS ON THE NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE, ONE KILLED IN ACTION 16TH JULY 1942 AT THE FIRST BATTLE OF RUWEISAT RIDGE, DURING THE BATTLE FOR EL ALEMEIN

1939/45 STAR, PACIFIC STAR, DEFENCE AND WAR MEDAS, NEW ZEALAND WAR SERVICE MEDAL. All unofficially engraved ‘73623 D. DOUGLAS’.

1939/45 STAR ‘63933 R. D. DOUGLAS 21ST D.?’ This unofficially engraved in the same hand as above.

David Douglas served in the Pacific with the 2nd New Zealand Divisional Engineers and the 35th (Mixed) Battalion, 2nd N.Z.E.F. from March 1942 until July 1944; Fiji, New Caledonia and Green Island. He was posted to the Middle East Sector in May 1945 returning to New Zealand in December 1945.

Robert Drybourg Douglas 21st Infantry Battalion, 2nd N.Z.E.F. was killed in the Western Desert during the First Battle of Ruweisat Ridge (Battle for El Alemein) with on 16th July, 1942. This was the battle where Captain Charles Upham was captured and won his second Victoria Cross.

Robert is buried at the El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt. Grave Reference - XXX. E.

Both brothers from Mount Roskill in Auckland.

Condition VF, traced of tape to obverse of discs. Sold with service papers for both brothers.
