ESSEX REGIMENT OFFICERS EGYPT PAIR

EGYPT 1882-89, UNDATED REVERSE, ONE BAR, THE NILE 1884-85 ‘LIEUT: W.G.S.BENSON. 2/ESSEX: R’ KHEDIVE’S STAR, DATED 1884-6.

The 2nd Battalion Essex Regiment served in the Gordon Relief Expedition in the Sudan 1884-5.

Colonel William George Sackville Benson, C.B, born 1861; educated at Harrow; commissioned Second Lieutenant 2nd Battalion Essex Regiment, 1882; Captain 1890; removed to Army Pay Dept 1899, Lieutenant-Colonel 16.8.1907; Colonel and Chief Paymaster ‘C.B. 1918; M.I.D. London Gazette 12.2.1918’; retired after serving in the Northern Command, 1919. Not entitled to WW1 campaign medals as served in UK only.

Condition VF, a little contact mark from star to Egypt.
