NAVAL GENERAL SERVICE 1793, CLASP BASQUE ROADS ‘ RALPH CORNUTT’
Midshipman Ralph Cornutt served aboard HMS Lyra at the fire ship attack on the French fleet at Basque Road in April 1809. Later the same year, he was taken prisoner during a failed attempt to cut out a French ship, spending the duration of the War as a prisoner in Verdun……………
…..Condition VF, small EK at 8 o’clock on reverse, otherwise NEF, nice patina. Cornutt is a unique surname on the medal roll, ex Hayward Dec 1975.
Sold with copies of musters and log from HMS Lyra for 31 March – 31 Oct 1809, medal and POW rolls and other research on CD. A very good officers medal which is worthy of more detailed research.
