NAVAL GENERAL SERVICE 1793-1840, CLASP, SYRIA ‘HENRY BRAXTON.’
Henry Braxton, age 16, joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class, aboard H.M.S. Britannia on 9 February 1837 and joined H.M.S Columbine in 12 June 1838. Joining H.M.S. Revenge as an Ordinary Seaman on 18 June 1839, he served with this ship during operations on and off the coast of Syria, 1840. Invalided on 21 May 1841, he joined H.M.S. Impregnable on 19 August 1841 but was paid off on 8 June 1843. Subsequent service was H.M.S. Camperdown; 15 February 1844 and H.M.S Queen; 19 July 1844, serving aboard until 14 November that year. During both the latter, se was rated as an Able Seaman.
