RARE PATTERN WW1 ROYAL FLYING CORPS PILOTS WINGS

A very rare pattern of Royal Flying Corps pilots' brevet embroidered on black wool, the embroidery to the wings in particular is very tight and done in different patterns to show the individual feathers more clearly. See Pandis ‘ Flight Badges of the Allied Nations 1914 -1918’ page 61for this very badge.

This is the second of this type of wing I’ve been lucky enough to own, the first came with a large group to a pilot and included a portrait of the pilot wearing his and although I have seen these described as ‘Australian’ pattern before, this I’m sure is incorrect as the pilot in question was British and saw no overseas service. I have included a pic of this as reference only.
