CANDAHAR, GHUZNEE CABUL 1842 TO A PRIVATE OF THE 41ST FOOT

CANDAHAR, GHUZNEE CABUL ‘THOS MAHON, 41ST REGT’

Thomas Mahon was born in Kilbeggan, West Meath in 1808 and enlisted into the 54th Foot at Dublin on 5 February 1825. Serving in India, including the Burma campaign, he was promoted Corporal, 20 September 1827 and Sergeant, 10 June 1829 but resigned his rank in November that year. When the 54th returned to England in January 1840, Mahon transferred to the 41st Foot and took part in the Afghan campaign of 1842. He was finally discharged as unfit for duty at Dublin on 20 October 1845. His conduct was noted ‘pretty good’. Mahon was additionally entitled to the Army of India medal, clasp Ava.

Condition VF, contact wear and minor EK’s. Correctly engraved for this regiment, fitted with original steel clip and ring suspension with original section of ribbon. Sold with a substantial and well put together file of research, including narratives of campaign, service papers etc
