AN EARLY ISSUE 1ST TYPE V.R. ARMY LONG SERVICE GOOD CONDUCT AWARDED TO PRIVATE OF THE 45TH FOOT, LATE 6TH CARABINIERS.

ARMY L.S. & G.C., V.R. 1ST TYPE, FITTED WITH STEEL CLIP AND STRAIGHT BAR SUSPENSION ‘JOHN CRAIG, 45TH REGIMENT FOOT. 1838.’

John Craig was born at Richerton, Kilmarnock. He attested into the 6th Dragoons Guards (carabiniers) at Kilmarnock on 13 April 1816 and transferred to the 45th Foot on 26 October 1826 until he was discharged on 21 May 1838. Service papers note served 10 years, 296 days in the East Indies. Rest of service at Home.

With collector’s index note stating 9 to Regiment 30-48 this is the 1st one and probably 1st official medal to regiment. (this not confirmed).

Condition GVF, a little contact wear. Original section of ribbon. Ex Spink May 2001.
