CRIMEA 1854-56,CLASP, SEBASTOPOL ‘NO. 2726. JOHN. OWENS. 77. FOOT’ CONTEMPORARILY ENGRAVED NAMING, TURKISH CRIMEA 1855, SARDINIAN ISSUE, UNNAMED.
Private John Owens service papers have not been located. His medal and clasps 'Alma', 'Balaclava' and 'Sebastopol' are confirmed on the medal roll. Engraved naming is not official, however the distinctive use of ‘No.’ before number and ’77. Foot’ as opposed ‘77th Foot’ has been noted on numerous other contemporarily engraved Crimea’s to the 77th. This may well indicate men from the Regiment used the same engraver.
Condition NVF, EK’s and light contact marks, otherwise or better. Crimea medal with original silk ribbon and a silver brooch.
