Lieutenant Colonel Victor Frederick Finlay Malley was born on 4 May 167 and was Commissioned into the 6th Connaught Rangers (North Mayo Militia) on 20 March 1886. Promoted Captain, 3rd Connaught Rangers (North and South Mayo Militia), 25 September 1893, he transferred to the 4th Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers (Cavan Militia) on 3 February 1897. Promoted Major, 6 February 1915, the battalion moved to Dublin in April 1916, Malley transferring to the 2nd (Garrison Battalion) Royal Irish Fusiliers on 8 August 1916, promoted Lieutenant Colonel in 1917, serving in Salonika with the battalion.

On returning to Ireland in May 1919, he relinquishing his commission on 6 July 1919, Malley continued his support for Crown forces during the War of Independence, distributing financial aid to ex-servicemen.

Post war. Malley wrote a brief history of his time with the 2nd Battalion, entitled ‘Record of the 2nd Garrison Battalion 1916 -1919, this being published in the Regimental journal.

Malley was ordained into the Church of England during the 1930’s, appointed Deacon 1932, Priest in Gloucester 1933 and served as Vicar of Cratfield from 1936. He died in Suffolk on 24 May 1958.

Condition VF. Sold with Malley’s original Mentioned in Despatches Certificate, dated 29 March 1917, an original Cabinet Card photograph and a large quantity of copied research.
