MG Schutz Willi Klopping of Schützen-Regt.4, 6.Panzer Division won his knights Cross defending his comrades with his Machine gun during a Russian attack in 1943 in Feb and March 1943 while the Division were serving at Kharkov.
Knights Cross is the desirable Steinhauer & Lück stamped '800' with magnetic centre. Swastika has been removed so as to Denazified the Award and this was most probably done while Klopping was a Prisoner of US Forces as this was a requirement set down by the US. Has a short KC worn ribbon with an metal fixing for attachment of top button of shirt, this is probably post War as worn at Old Comrades meeting or such .See PDF for details and pics of Award documents, newspaper cuttings and photos.
Since listing this group I have quite by chance obtained a Group of 7 original photos from another soldiers album of Klopping's Award parade in front of Regiment. This still mounted with photo corners in the album page. This show Klopping being driveninto the parade, his parents meeting him etc
A really fantastic veterans group to a Very Brave Soldier, great to have so much paperwork and details of the Award. Still has its Guarantee of Authenticity from when Purchased from Detlev Niemann about 10 years ago.
