WWI PROMOTIONAL POSTER FOR THE 1918 BOOK “KREUZ WIDER KOKARDE JAGDFLÜGE DES LEUTNANT UDET”, A WARTIME CONTEMPORARY ACCOUNT OF GERMAN FIGHTER ACE ERNST UDET’S SERVICE AS A PILOT
A fine colour lithograph promotional poster for Ernst Eichler's book “Kreuz Wider Kokarde Jagdflüge des Leutnant Udet” which was published by Verlag Delka in Munich in 1918. Ernst Udet was the second highest scoring German ace of WWI with 62 victories. Poster with the artists name and date; "Claus Bergen 1918". Poster size is 23 ½" x 35 ¼”
Condition is of the poster is extremely good, especially considering how fine grain the paper is; this almost certainly down to War time shortages. Some age spots around the edge and at the very top centre is the marks where some tape has previously been but is undamaged. Poster has been originally folded but the poster has clearly been rolled for so many years that this is hardly visible. An example held in the Imperial War museum hae similar very fine fold marks, so it may be that these posters came in one of the flight magazines of the time:
A superb and rare display piece.
