WW1 GERMAN PILOTS PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM CIRCA 1916-18

This album, measuring 25 x 18cm, contains approximately 125 photographs and 9 loose photographs taken circa 1916-18.

Content of album is mixed, starting with artillery pieces and battlefield shots and then various scenic and civilian images taken on the Eastern Front. It moves on to more battlefield shots, dead soldiers, machine guns, grenade launchers etc. These photographs mainly have a sepia tinge to them. Moving on, the photographs are mainly of aviation interest, these taken with a different camera and in the main sharper more black/white toned. Lots of shots of aircraft with pilots/observers, crashes; LVG’s, Aviatiks, Albatros B’s and some good flying kit images. There are also a number of shots of German observation balloons, several of a crashed Pfalz fighter etc. Towards the end of the album are a number of portrait photographs, some in army uniform, some with aviation insignia. These have been attached just to one side so they can be flipped back and the writing on the reserve can be read. Of the nine loose photographs, seven are portrait images, mostly the same officer in various uniforms both army and aviation, a couple wearing a pickelhaube. This officer also features in the album and it is presumably his. The last three of the loose photos are off the officer standing next to an Albatros B, a large shot of a chateaux and another of von Richthofen’s 1918 grave.

Condition of the album is very good. Some excellent photographs within.
