WW1 GERMAN FELDLUFTSCHIFFER ABTEILUNG PHOTO ALBUM 1917-18

An attractive hardbound photograph album, measuring 32.5 x 24.5cm, the inner covers with most attractive Prussian eagle papers. The inside of the album named to 'August Hans Hecht' and dated '1917-18'.

The contents of the album relates to a FeldluftSchiffer Abteilung; basically a frontline observation ballon unit. A good number of excellent photographs of German Parseval-Sigsfeld Drachenballon’s (Parseval-Sigsfeld Kite balloon) both on the ground and the air:

Most interestingly, in the main, the photographs show FeldluftSchiffer soldiers preparing the balloons for flight and repacking it for transportation. Some really good uniform shots and unusual to see shako’s in use at this time.

Just 31 photographs in the album, which is a relatively small amount, however quality and subject matter is excellent, indeed far better than many albums with many more photographs which are often bulked up with many scenic or non military photographs. Photographs average about 11 x 8cm, though some a little bigger.

Though photographs of Drachenballon are relatively often seen, detailed photographs like these rarely are.
